Let's stop the Yank-bashing: Preventable Death is due more to smoking, lawyers, and Vitamin Sweat deficiency, than to pernicious vote-mongering tactics having to do with leap-seconds.

Was any rationale given for abolishing leap-seconds?

to screw up daylight savings time again, only this time there are millions
of copies of tens of thousands of products with built in ROMs that "just
know" when the US time change happens.
