The 48xx series has some serious problems being used as an NTP
server -- ask Steve. The 45xx series works well, as Poul-Henning
Kamp has proven many times over.

If you want to use the 48xx series for something else, it may or
may not be a good choice. But add a 2.5" hard drive to a 48xx
machine with a 266 Mhz 586 class Geode single chip processor, and
that's going to be pretty expensive and yet not yield a whole lot of
system performance. A Mac Mini would probably be cheaper and perform
a heck of a lot better, while not drawing that much more power and
taking up only a little more space.
