[ntp:questions] ntpd, boot time, and hot plugging

Regardless of what has gone before, ntpdate as it has existed must go away.

It does a really poor job at what it was designed to do.

It is difficult to maintain (nobody wants to do it).

We plan to provide all of the functionality of the goals of ntpdate using
ntpd and, perhaps, sntp.

If any functionality is missing, please submit a report.

The "speed" issue is fine to debate here.

At the moment, ntp-dev has a way to quickly set the time (perhaps not so
accurately).

There are costs and benefits here, and reality bites.

If you have critical needs, put critical thought and testing into your
design and deployment.
