What is the normal frequency for these messages to show in the logs? In
the quote above, are these messages showing up too often?

The systems are on the same LAN with their NTP servers. The NTP servers
are synced over the Internet. All systems run ntp-4.2.2p1. OS is
Redhat-like. This is the client config file:

#####################################
server X.Y.Z.K iburst
server X.Y.Z.W iburst

# excepting the servers from more drastic restrictions
restrict X.Y.Z.K nomodify notrap nopeer noquery
restrict X.Y.Z.W nomodify notrap nopeer noquery

# allow local queries
restrict 127.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0

# now close the door
restrict default ignore

driftfile /var/lib/ntp/drift
