The Sure Electronics unit works directly plugged into a serial port with
USB for power only. I have not found any need to alter any of the
parameters you mention - it just sits there and works.
With respect, I suggest getting the unit working in basic serial mode
first, and only then trying to do the more complex things. Bill has
pointed you to the manual, and there are download details and screen-shots
about modifying the serial baud rate on my Web page:
