Hi,
If you don't actually have an IPv6 interface, ntpd crashes (on FreeBSD) when
you  get an AAAA record first from a lookup. The following patch fixes the
problem for me by making sure that the address you choose is from an address
family that you have an interface for. (It's diffed against FreeBSD sources,
but I assume they're identical.) It won't help in this case, though. 
I've submitted it to the FreeBSD NTP maintainer for review.
