Sorry Dave, this is (and was) Brian Utterback.
I am confused over your objection. You provide ntpd with an option to not wrangle
the frequency, but using this option does not prevent ntpd from setting the
frequency anyway. One might argue that ntpd should undo anything in the kernel
that it has already done if the PLL is disabled, but I am willing to concede
that lightning may strike if this is done. Okay, then to stop ntpd from setting
the frequency, your solution is to delete the drift file before you start ntpd.
All righty then, but since ntpd is usually kicked off in a startup script, my
thought is to automate this process and *IF* the kernel PLL is disabled in
ntp.conf, then make sure the drift file is deleted before starting ntpd.
Your response sounds as if you object to that. If so, what is the objection?
