Summary: ntpd dies after 2 days
           Product: ntp
           Version: 4.2.0
          Platform: Sun
        OS/Version: Solaris
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: ntpd
        AssignedTo: stenn at ntp.org
        ReportedBy: Paul.Croome at softwareag.com
                CC: bugs at ntp.isc.org

I'm running NTP v4.2.0b-rc1 at 1.1480 on five systems.

Three systems were configured/compiled with no refclocks
(./configure --disable-all-clocks).
These three systems have been running for ~2 weeks with no problems.
These systems are Sun SPARCs
(V240/Solaris 9; V480/Solaris 9; E250/Solaris 6).

Now comes the bug.

Two systems were configured/compiled with
configure --disable-all-clocks --enable-HOPFSERIAL --enable-ATOM --enable-RAWDCF
(refclocks are a Hopf radio-clock with PPS on one system,
and a low-cost DCF receiver on the other system).
These systems are also Sun SPARCs:
(both SPARCstation IPC/Solaris 7).
The ntpd on these two systems dies silently after about 2 days.
No entries in /var/adm/messages, /var/adm/ntp.log, no useful information in
clockstats, loopstats, peerstats.

The memory size of ntpd appears to increase very slowly. Could a slow
memory leak be the cause of the problem?

Thanks and regards,
Paul Croome
