Sorry,
Too quick... The "fix" above did make periodic retries resolving "permanently" 
failed lookups. However, when it finally did manage to resolve the name 
correctly and try to configure ntpd with the new peer I get a message telling 
me:

send to NTP server failed: No such device or address

I have tried to see what happens but can't solve it myself. If anyone could 
help it would be VERY appreciated!
