ad 1) Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the link-local address is only useful for
multicast with link-scope, but not for any "greater" scope. Link-local addresses
must be unique on the local link, but may be not in a global scope. You wouldn't
send IPv4 multicasts (at least to the mbone) using a RFC1918 address as source,
would you? As far as I remember a ntp client would build up a one-time client
association at startup for RTT measurement, so it needs a routable address if
it's not on-link.
And yes, #10 said it works - on FreeBSD!
ad 2) Good question. Maybe it should not, but then I need a way to select the
appropriate source interface.
ad 3) It falls back to the wildcard address, because just before it eliminated
every usable IPv6 address from its list.

Sure? I get "command line trusted key stdout is invalid" in syslog.
