Daniel,

This could be a gcc-4 "difference".  I am not currently testing with gcc4.1.

I believe AIX uses __ss_*.  You can look at /usr/include/sys/socket.h to be
sure, and also around line 24171 of your config.log file.

Can you please look and try and figure out a bit more about what the
underlying problem is for you?  I am currently building under AIX5.3 with
the stock C compiler (xlc) and gcc-3.4.6 and these work fine for me.
