thanks for your latest graphs. They showed clearly what I didn't want to see at
all... ...but they are conclusive.
In the meantime, digging with 'bk revtool' revealed something.
One of the things I changed with adding the PGRMF sentence was to replace some
local macros with calls to library functions for time stamp conversions. One
function later showed to have a problem with negative signs and was fixed in
the end of December 2011. (bug 2100) The library was heavily refactored and
inlined by Dave Hart at the time.
IMHO this bug, when triggered, had the capability to introduce spurious spikes.
I'm still not sure where a negative sign could have entered the picture, but
that's the best clue I currently have.
