Well, NIS is a bit creaky in the joints, but reports of its demise
are premature. You are more likely to see NIS+ go away before NIS
does, due to its smaller user base. I can tell you that although
we have announced that NIS+ may be removed in some future release
of Solaris, (i.e. Solaris 11 or later, assuming its called Solaris
11), there has been no such announcment regarding NIS.

On the other hand, the party line is to use LDAP if you can, for new
deployments.
