Jack,
The minimum and maximum poll intervals are determined by the stability
envelope of the clock discipline algorithm. With the current design, the
limits are 4 (16s) to 17 (36h). I doubt any other discipline will extend
this interval; most will diminish that range. If the traffic model I
suggested previously is believed, the minimum peak headway must be not
less than two seconds and the minimum average headway not less than 15
seconds. Thus, the minimum poll interval with burst mode is 256 seconds.
