[time] restrict limited

Hi all,

 

As a test I added the "limited" keyword to the restrict line. In my graphs I
could see that I had less outgoing traffic than without this (default)
restriction.

The output of #ntpdc -c sysstats:

 

time since restart:     100282

time since reset:       100282

packets received:       678555

packets processed:      7441

current version:        194568

previous version:       483208

bad version:            0

access denied:          0

bad length or format:   74

bad authentication:     29

rate exceeded:          144880

 

This tells me that 20% of packets are rate exceeded.

 

Without "limited" output of sysstats:

 

time since restart:     219644

time since reset:       219644

packets received:       1580630

packets processed:      16744

current version:        485304

previous version:       1093817

bad version:            0

access denied:          0

bad length or format:   58

bad authentication:     149

rate exceeded:          0

 

Are other users using the limited restriction or do they use other values
for average minimum 5 and minimum 2?

I suppose routers sent all these requests at once for their clients, because
I cannot imagine there are so many abusive clients.

 

A search on fortytwo.ch with google on "kod limited" gave me some hits but
not a good explanation whether I should use it.
