I'm using ntpd-4.1.2 (Debian/unstable) with the following config:

--- snip ---
driftfile /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift
statsdir /var/log/ntpstats/

statistics loopstats peerstats clockstats
filegen loopstats file loopstats type day enable
filegen peerstats file peerstats type day enable
filegen clockstats file clockstats type day enable

### lines starting 'server' are auto generated,
### use dpkg-reconfigure to modify those lines.

server river.charite.de
server postamt1.charite.de
server hauptpostamt.charite.de
server mogli.charite.de
server quigon.charite.de
server charcom.charite.de
--- snip ---

And I get these errors/warnings in the logfile:

Oct 13 12:02:58 hummus2 ntpd[8714]: synchronisation lost
Oct 13 12:07:15 hummus2 ntpd[8714]: synchronisation lost

Oct 13 12:58:49 hummus2 ntpd[8714]: synchronisation lost

a) What causes these "synchronisation lost" messages?
b) How can I fix this problem (should it be a problem...)
