I'm going to add my 2'pennorth in here as well!

There is no such thing as a 'bad' programming language, just bad
programming!

I have written in Assembler, Basic, VBScript, Pascal, C, Delphi, perl
and MSDOS batch & wouldn't necessarily say that any of them is better
(or worse) than any other, they are all tools to do a job & you pick
the most appropriate & available one. As long as you follow the
principals of structured coding then you should write decent code, yes
some of them make it easier (EG complex data types) & in some you have
to implement the data structure using access functions to 'hide' the
implementation but that is just detail.

Learn as many languages as you can - "If the only tool you have is a
hammer then everything looks like a nail"...
