The nanokernel is standard in FreeBSD, afaik Poul H Kemp (a danish 
member of the FreeBSD core team for a number of years) is responsible 
for this.

I believe FreeBSD is using a kernel clock similar to ntp time these 
days, but with 64:64 bit resolution instead of the 32:32 bit format used 
for ntp.
