[ntp:questions] Ntpdate - socket in use

Hi everyone,

I am running ntpdate 4.2.0 at 1.1161-r on RedHat 7.1, Linux kernel 2.4.2-2, and I'm
running into what seems to be a common error. The problem is that I've looked
at the common solutions, and I haven't come to a resolution.

Upon running "ntpdate ntp1.level3.net ntp2.level3.net" (servers are listed in order of topological proximity), I
recieve the following message;

Looking for host and service ntp
host found : ge-7-1.core2.Chicago1.Level3.net
Looking for host ntp1.level3.net and service ntp
host found : ntp1.level3.net
Looking for host ntp2.level3.net and service ntp
host found : ntp2.level3.net
Looking for host and service ntp
host found : so-8-0.core1.Chicago1.Level3.net
11 Jan 13:19:10 ntpdate[829]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting

The common solution states that I am running ntpd and to kill it. "killall
ntpd" yields "ntpd: no process killed" and a netstat doesn't show the TCP/UDP
port 123 anywhere.

Has anyone else run into this problem?
