I have been running the patches by Ulrich Windl on a PentiumII-machine
for some years. Just for the record. You should get the Linux
nanokernel patches from 
        
        http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/ntp/PPS/

There is support up to 2.4.29 and also some 2.6.x support.
