You can specify MINPOLL and MAXPOLL in the server statement in
ntpd.conf but it's generally a BAD IDEA!!!
ntpd starts up polling at an interval of 64 (MINPOLL=6) seconds and
will normally increase that interval to as much as 1024 (MAXPOLL=10)
seconds once it achieves good synchronization. Oversimplifying, the
short intervals allow it to make large corrections relatively quickly
and the long intervals allow it to make small corrections very
accurately. In most circumstances, forcing different polling intervals
will cause ntpd to work much less well than it otherwise would..
