Quite suddenly last night, one of my Internet facing PCs went wild:

  http://www.david-taylor.myby.co.uk/mrtg/hermes_ntp.html

whereas the other, using different servers did not:

(You may just catch the leap-second transient on the left edge of these
graphs).

It seems that immediately after on of its regular server changes, it
decided to do a timestep, followed by more server changes and timesteps.
Here's a short Windows Event Log extract:

14674,Application,NTP,INFORMATION,HERMES,10/01/2006 23:41:50,3,None,time
reset -0.255819 s
14673,Application,NTP,INFORMATION,HERMES,10/01/2006
23:26:36,3,None,synchronized to 195.66.241.3, stratum 2
