[ntp:questions] Linux 11-minute mode (RTC update)

It shouldn't be forgot that the RTC can only be set and read with a
granularity of seconds only. The 11-minute scheme doesn't synchronize
the RTC to the exact second and when read, even waiting for up to a
second for the read to change, it lacks accuracy. All this in
addition to thermal drifting of the reference crystal frequency.

The bottom line is that the RTC is just a little better than inputing
the time manually whenever the system comes up. Of course, this is
fine if time synchronization and discipline is soon taken over by NTP.
