My Athlon 64 X2 defaulted to HPET.  It seems to have a very stable
clock; my drift file says "7.436" and my offsets right now are all in
the -1.5ms to 2.5ms range.

That's even with CPU frequency scaling enabled (running at 1GHz right
now).
