I see. I admit that our SAN admin *did* complain about high IOPS figures

And *that* explains why the age alerts didn't appear until the drift
estimates had settled again, half a day or so *after* the update.
The driftfile having a resolution of milliPPM suggests that with the
default value of "nonvolatile", an update should be written at least
every eight hours unless the difference happens to stay at *zero* within
that resolution. I'll see what limits of WARN=9h CRIT=24h will do,
