thanks for your answers already.
I've experimented some more, and have extra remarks:
4. when i try to enable stats with the following config, ntp does not generate the stats:
content of the ntp.conf:
filegen clockstats file clockstats type pid enable
(type pid: should generate the file each time ntpd is called, so each time i
execute ntpd -q, i expect a file.
the ntp.conf file is used with the -c option:
sudo ntpd -q -c /etc/ntp.conf -l /tmp/ntp_logfile.txt
5. On the man page of ntpd it is stated that the exit codes are logged into the syslog. Is there an option on the command line to redirect the error messages to stdout?
6. with the -l option you can specify the logfile, but is it also foreseen to redirect to stdout with the following logfile convention: "-l -" ?
(because it is easier to read in immediately a stream from stdout instead of parsing a file.
