Dear Folks,

I have setup ntp servers on Ubuntu virtual machines. The configuration
files are exactly the same on both the machines. I am attaching the conf
file along with this email for you to have a look into it.

On the VM running Ubuntu and Linux kernel version

Linux ubuntu 4.4.0-78-generic #99-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 27 15:29:09 UTC 2017
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have the following ntpq -p output

remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================
134.221.121.17 .POOL. 16 p - 64 0 0.000 0.000 0.000
*134.221.121.17 .LOCL. 1 u 388 1024 377 0.576 -0.532 0.520

Whereas on the VM running Ubuntu and Linux kernel version I have the
following output

Linux sgwc-pgwc-mme1 3.19.0-51-generic #58~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 26
22:02:58 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================
*134.221.121.17 .LOCL. 1 u 917 1024 377 0.821 -0.542 1.041

Why is it that on old Linux kernel only the LOCL server is shown and on the
newer Linux kernel both the LOCL and POOL are shown? Does it mean that the
two VMs are synced differently?

Best Regards,
Ashish Kurian
