[ntp:hackers] More on the runaway clock in FreeBSD 6

Guys,

In 5.3 the kernel clock runs at 100 Hz; however, I see in the 6.0 kernel
sources it runs at 1000 Hz for 64-bit machines and the i386. The tickadj
program correctly reports the clock frequency, but calculates the clock
frequency as 100 Hz in both 5.3 and 6.0. Changing the value of tick has
no effect.

Apparently, 6.0 is okay for Pentium II/300 howland, but not for its
identically configured twin, Pentium II/450 mort. This was true for the
generic kernel for mort and a recompiled kernel with PPS support.

If this happens to me, I strongly suspect it will happen to somebody
else. If anybody wants to look at mort, I would be happy to leave it for
a few days. Otherwise, I will drop back to 5.3.

Dave
