Nice, never knew that it existed.
I'm in the process of setting up an ntp server on a soekris, and was
considering to use cron for saving ntpd.drift from ram to flash.
One thing is that is has to be restored at boot and I don't like to
interfere with the rc scripts to much.

What you describe is obviously simpler and better.
