 Note that syncing a TOY clock within ntpd (i.e. doing it frequently) may
disrupt the operation of the timer tick if the TOY clock is used as a
timer interrupt source (which depends on hardware capabilities and
software configuration).  I observe it on a few Linux systems;
unfortunately unpatched Linux does not allow disabling this syncing.  For
systems in continuous service, writing the system time back to the TOY
clock upon a shutdown should suffice; if abrupt system shutdowns are
possible, the TOY clock could be additionally synced once per day or so.
