How log did you give it?  If it's the first time you've run ntp on the linux box (not drift file)
expect it to take a while before it syncs (10 mins or so) and up to a full day before it gets the
clock drift sorted out  - run it for a day and then post the ntpq -p billboard and your ntp.conf
files if it's still not synced.
