Are you arguing against yourself? If only the local hop is in common, 
then the rest is asymmetric, so the chances are pretty darn good.

And for that local hop, with cable modem or DSL, one might see 
asymmetric serialization delays and/or buffering over the first hop, 
since upstream and downstream bandwidths are unequal.
