[ntp:questions] Is there a reason not to use flag 1 and flag 3 with the NMEA refclock?

On my Pi time server I've been using the NMEA refclock with flag 1 and flag
3 turned on and not using a separate PPS entry in the conf file. It seems
to work well, ntpq -p shows an offset of -0.002 and a jitter of 0.003.
That's better than anything I've been able to achieve with the SHM methods.
Is this simple setup somehow too good to be true?
